UNCEASING PRAYER
Read 1 Thessalonians 5.
When I Thessalonians 5:17 directs, "Pray without ceasing," does it demand an impossibility?
No.
Prayer is not merely petition. True prayer is unselfish fellowship with God, in the name of Jesus Christ.
He whose life moved towards a Cross can be used to sponsor no pagan prayer for self and comfort.
Prayer is God conscious, it is a striving of the spirit. True prayer is an attitude of surrender, the practice of the presence of God. Such a habit of life and thought can fill the subconscious mind, and colour and control the very sources of our action, and permeate our very dreams. Psychology has discovered the reality and importance of the sub-conscious. The daily practice of faith and dedication of the will to a higher Will, a Love that holds, a Power that controls, can sanctify the inner depths of being. This worship, which is true prayer, can be unceasing. Whitefield, who knew nothing of psychology, reached the same conclusion by a much more simple and practical road. "Be much in secret prayer," he said, "and when about the common business of life be much in ejaculatory prayer.
Send short letters to heaven upon the wings of faith. They will reach the very heart of God and return loaded with blessings."
